Gwinnett County's Alexander Park opens to public
Chad Alexander Smith, AIA, LEED® AP was the keynote speaker at the ribbon cutting ceremony. Read his speech below.Mr. Smith also designed the signature architectural element to be constructed in a future phase of the Alexander Park.

The Brookwood High School Hall of Fame Selection Committee elected Chad Alexander Smith, AIA, LEED® AP (1992 graduate) to become a member of the first class of Brookwood’s Student and Faculty Hall of Fame.
The plaque reads, "In recognition of graduates and faculty of Brookwood High School who have made a significant contribution to society and provided a positive role model for students. These leaders are recognized for their outstanding career achievements and service consistent with the Brookwood's "...tradition of Excellence."
Mr. Smith is the youngest recipient and accepted this great honor in recognition of his continued service to the community. Other recipients included:
Amy Robach (1991 graduate)
Amy is a national correspondent for NBC's Today, as well as the co-anchor of their Saturday edition.
Jason Elam (1988 graduate)
Jason Elam is a retired American football place kicker. He was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the third round of the 1993 NFL Draft and played at the end of his career with the Atlanta Falcons.

Chad Alexander Smith, AIA, LEED® AP elected Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Snellville.
In the fall of 2003, Mr. Smith ran a successful campaign to become a Council Member for the City of Snellville. Some of his accomplishments include:
- The Council approved a Charter change for a new City Manager form of government.
- The Council approved a smoking ordinance.
- A Corridor Overlay District was created.
- Snellville was awarded a $2.2 million LCI grant for Town Center Projects.
- A new Park Master Plan was developed.
- Snellville is recertified as a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation.
- The Council approves Spohntown’s $71 million mixed-use planned development in the Downtown Overlay District.
- The $10 million City Hall and Senior Center complex in under construction.
