Founding President and award winning Architect Chad Alexander Smith’s commitment to responsible, beautiful and sustainable architecture extends to every project at CAS ARCHITECTURE.

Mr.Smith led the design team effort for Precision Planning’s Hamilton Mill Branch Library which was selected as one of Library Journal’s New Landmark Libraries that will inspire the next generation of libraries and was published in Library Journal magazine and in its supplement, Library by Design. The Library is the first LEED® “Gold” library in Georgia to meet the standards of the U. S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) and the recipient of the 2010 Award for “Honorable Mention for Excellence in Sustainability” from the Georgia Chapter of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). In addition, the library was part of the 2011 AIA Atlanta Tour Series featuring works to educate the public about the profession of architecture through guided tours of significant projects in the Atlanta area.

Mr.Smith holds a Masters of Architecture degree from Princeton University where he studied directly under superstar architects Michael Graves and Peter Eisenman. Mr. Smith’s thesis coordinator was the accomplished theorist Mark Wigley. Previously, he lived and studied for a year in Paris, France at the Ecole Nationlale Superierure des Beaux-Arts. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree from The Georgia Institute of Technology.

In 2003, Mr. Smith ran a successful campaign to become a City of Snellville Council Member. In 2004, he was appointed Mayor Pro Tem. Previously, he served on the City of Snellville Planning Commission, the Board of Appeals and the core committee for the Livable Center Initiative. In 2004, he was appointed Mayor Pro Tem.

Mr.Smith is a triathlete and routinely competes in local races from 5k’s to full marathons. He ran the Publix Georgia Marathon on March 17th last year in Atlanta.

Cocktail Napkin Sketch Contest - 2012 | Runner-up Professional Architectural Record

September 2012

Architectural Record was deluged with submissions for its third annual cocktail-napkin sketch contest. The jury of editors evaluated nearly 1,000 napkins from over 300 entrants.

In the professional category, the jury awarded cocktail napkin sketches that ranged from quick sketches of iconic buildings to whimsical studies on the design process. The jurors generally favored sketches that looked more like late-night handiwork done in a dimly lit bar than carefully crafted renderings.

New Landmark Library Award Library Journal | The Hamilton Mill Branch of the Gwinnett County Public Library

May 2011

The Hamilton Mill Branch of the Gwinnett County Library was selected as one of Library Journal’s ten New Landmark Libraries for 2011 from U.S. public library buildings constructed between 2005 and 2010 that will inspire the next generation of libraries. The chosen libraries define “a new level of excellence in responsive design, green thinking, and sheer wow!” and were published in the May 15, 2011 Library Journal magazine and in its supplement, Library by Design. 2011 AIA Atlanta Tour Series | American Institute of Architects | Atlanta Chapter | The Hamilton Mill Branch of the Gwinnett County Public Library

The Hamilton Mill Branch of the Gwinnett County Public Library was part of the 2011 AIA Atlanta Tour Series featuring works to educate the public about the profession of architecture through guided tours of significant projects in the Atlanta area.
