Due to the continuous growth in library use, Three Rivers Regional System Board of Trustees and Charlton Public Library recommended to the Georgia Public Library Services that a renovation of the Charlton Public Library be constructed to help relieve the growing demand placed by library users on the existing facility. The Georgia General Assembly included the Charlton Public library project in their state funded budget during the 2015 legislative session.
The Charlton Public Library will provide a renovated library space of 5,200 square feet with a new addition of 3,000 square feet. The design will incorporate an expanded multipurpose meeting room, tech center, extra space for library collection, adequate employee workspace, a dedicated server room, and overall, create a library in line with current technologies, initiatives and patron services.
CAS conducted an initial design “Charrette” with the library design team. The above sketch was created during that meeting to help visualize opportunities and constraints and discus how library will remain in operation while the new addition is being constructed. The Construction work will be phased to allow for uninterrupted service to the library patrons.
